Below are the micropropagated rootstocks for certified fruit plants available at Vivai Milone in Lamezia Terme:
A hybrid of Prunus persica x Prunus amygdalus obtained from INRA (France); it is the classic standard for the most difficult soils, from calcareous to arid, not disdaining clayey or compact soils, provided they are not asphyctic. High vigour, particularly suitable for replanting.
Clonal selection of Prunus cerasifera of American origin. The most common rootstock for growing plums. Adapts well to various types of soil, both dry and calcareous. Good productivity and production quality.
Clonal selection of Prunus cerasifera from the University of Pisa. Compared to the franc, it reduces the size of the plants, giving high and constant productivity, early ripening and good fruit colouration and size. Suitable for various types of soil, even those with water stagnation.
Selection of Prunus domestica from the Experimental Institute for Fruit Growing in Rome. Multi-purpose rustic rootstock - apricot, almond, peach and plum, adapts very well to heavy, asphyctic clay soils, resistant to Phytophtora Cinammoni, is characterised by excellent anchorage and absence of pollen.
Selection of Prunus domestica from the Experimental Institute for Fruit Growing in Rome. Multi-purpose rustic rootstock - apricot, peach and plum, adapts very well to clayey, heavy and asphyctic soils, resistant to Phytophtora Cinammoni and gall nematodes (Meloidogyne sp.), is characterised by excellent anchorage and absence of pollen. It improves fruit characteristics - size and colour - as well as providing earlier ripening.
A hybrid of P. canescens x P. cerasus with low to medium vigour. Induces early fruiting with excellent productivity. Absent pollen activity. Only suitable for fertile, fresh, irrigated land and for high-density planting.
Hybrid of P. cerasus x P. canescens obtained in Germany at the University of Giessen. Adapts to different soil and climate conditions, low to medium vigour, intermediate between Gisela 5 and Ma x MA- Delbard 14 brokforest. Induces a healthy fruit set and a good size.
Selection of quince from Provence licensed by Inra in Angers. It has a strong, branched root system which provides good anchorage. Prefers fresh, fertile soil and tolerates dry, chalky soil. It is rather vigorous and enters production slowly, but ensures a good, constant yield. Induces a healthy fruit size and improves its characteristics.
Originates from the cross of Garfi x Nemared (Prunus amygdalus x Prunus persica), established in Spain at S.I.A. DGA in Zaragoza. It is a red-leaf rootstock that gives the plant a vigour similar or superior to GF677. It confers resistance to gall nematodes and ferric chlorosis.
Obtained from Hatton a t East Malling (GB). After rehabilitation with thermotherapy it became a popular rootstock with various na, e.g. poor pollination, prefers fertile, irrigated soils. Interesting for high-density systems.
Below are the certified fruit plant rootstocks available at Vivai Milone in Lamezia Terme:
Clonal selection of Prunus armeniaca from INRA (France). Compared to the common franc, it gives greater uniformity of plant development, early entry into production, greater vigour even in drought and limestone soils, and better fruit colouring.
Prunus persica seedling selected by INRA (France). Induces high plant vigour, early entry into production, high and constant productivity, with greater fruit size and colouration; particularly suitable for calcareous soils, even with iron and magnesium deficiencies.
Peach tree from Morocco, distinguished by its high homogeneity and good vigour. It is related to all apricot, peach and plum varieties, to which it gives good productivity. Suitable for fertile, non-calcareous soils without waterlogging.
A hybrid of Prunus persica x Prunus davidiana selected by the USDA (United States), vigorous, particularly suitable for soils infested with gallible nematodes of the genus Meloidogyne (M. arenaria, M. incognita and M. javanica).
Hybrid obtained from INRA (France). By crossing the St. Julien d'Orleans x Brompton varieties, it gives greater uniformity than the myrobalan franc, improves vigour and fruit colouration. Particularly suitable for plum and peach trees in heavy soils.
The most important rootstock for southern cherry-growing, which adapts well to various types of soil, including droughty, calcareous, and rich in structure, as long as it is not asphyxiated and has good resistance to cold. The selections used are characterised by the high rusticity and homogeneity of the seedlings in the garden centre. Excellent production efficiency and affinity to all cherry varieties.
Rootstock characterised by a branched root system. It is highly developed in breadth and depth. Does not produce pollen. Suitable for fresh, deep soil, gives high vigour with good quality fruit even if it delays entry into production. Suitable for hilly and mountainous growing environments.
Widely used in spite of various drawbacks due to its typical heterogeneity, which includes: uneven planting, disaffinity phenomena with swelling at the graft point, disconnection between bionts, development of root pollen. However, it adapts to almost all types of soil, even if clayey, and resists drought and limestone well.
